What happens if HubSpot is Acquired by Google?

Speculation…

If the rumors are true and Google acquires HubSpot, that makes one of the largest companies in the world a direct competitor of Salesforce. Yes, both Salesforce and HubSpot have slightly different offerings and use cases, but there is A LOT of overlap too.

Will anything change overnight? No. But the playing field will begin to shift.

I don’t think that either Salesforce or HubSpot will make any significant strategic shifts, but I do think that marketing and proxy wars could ensue.

Both camps have large ecosystems and communities that they have cultivated for years, which lend to their strength in the marketplace. My fear lies in any decrease in confidence or moral of the community. As a Salesforce professional, I believe that anything that adds pessimism or fear to the Salesforce community weakens the entire ecosystem and Salesforce as a whole.

So, if this rumor is true, what should you do? Don’t panic. Don’t run. Don’t significantly change your learning journey. This world is big enough for the both of us [Salesforce and HubSpot]. That said, I fully intend to equip myself with some HubSpot basics. And I will continue to sharpen my expertise with Data Cloud and Salesforce AI capabilities.
